A landmark in western music, Tristan und Isolde’s bold use of harmony and sublime depiction of extreme emotion makes it one of the most inspiring and influential operas of all time. Starring acclaimed New Zealand Heldentenor Simon O’Neill and American soprano Meagan Miller, Tristan und Isolde is the perfect prelude to the Brisbane production of Wagner’s Ring Cycle.
A story of forbidden love, Tristan and Isolde have fallen in love but Isolde is promised to Tristan’s uncle, King Marke. The ensuing story of divided worlds and tragic destiny is a profound expression of our need to be loved. Renowned for its magnificent music, Wagner’s score includes the lovers’ ecstatic duet and Isolde’s so-called Liebestod, “Mild und leise”, in which she anticipates transfiguration and eternal union with Tristan.
This semi-staged production is conducted by renowned interpreter of Wagner, Pietari Inkinen. Presented with Queensland Symphony Orchestra on the Concert Hall platform, it features lighting and visuals by Mark Howett, who wowed audiences with our production of Verdi’s Requiem in 2019.
Tristan und Isolde will change the way you see and hear the world.
TRISTAN GIVING CIRCLE
In 2020 Opera Queensland continues to build on its vision to bring the best internationally acclaimed artists to Brisbane’s main stage. Our aspiration to bring the world’s best artists and operas to Brisbane can only be made possible through the impressive generosity of our donors and corporate partners.
We have secured an opportunity to bring the internationally acclaimed Simon O’Neill, whose roles include Siegmund in Wagner’s Die Walkϋre at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, to sing the leading tenor role Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde in our 2020 Season. Our Conductor is the internationally acclaimed Pietari Inkinen who is conducting Wagner’s Ring Cycle in Bayreuth, the world’s most prestigious Opera House, just prior to coming to work with us.
The acquisition of world-class artistic talent comes at a considerable cost.
We are asking those of our donors who have the capacity to invest $5K, in addition to their annual giving, to assist Opera Queensland with the expenses associated in engaging such masters of their craft for the purpose of bringing this sublime landmark in western music production to Brisbane.
The Tristan Giving Circle would be acknowledged in several ways:
- On our donor recognition page under the highest category of Artist Ambassadors in the Program for the production of Tristan und Isolde
- An exclusive dining experience specifically created for our Artist Ambassadors to engage with Tristan und Isolde artists in appreciation for assisting Opera Queensland to make the performance possible.
