A landmark in western music, Tristan und Isolde’s bold use of harmony and sublime depiction of extreme emotion makes it one of the most inspiring and influential operas of all time. Starring acclaimed New Zealand Heldentenor Simon O’Neill and American soprano Meagan Miller, Tristan und Isolde is the perfect prelude to the Brisbane production of Wagner’s Ring Cycle.
A story of forbidden love, Tristan and Isolde have fallen in love but Isolde is promised to Tristan’s uncle, King Marke. The ensuing story of divided worlds and tragic destiny is a profound expression of our need to be loved. Renowned for its magnificent music, Wagner’s score includes the lovers’ ecstatic duet and Isolde’s so-called Liebestod, “Mild und leise”, in which she anticipates transfiguration and eternal union with Tristan.
This semi-staged production is conducted by renowned interpreter of Wagner, Pietari Inkinen. Presented with Queensland Symphony Orchestra on the Concert Hall platform, it features lighting and visuals by Mark Howett, who wowed audiences with our production of Verdi’s Requiem in 2019.
Tristan und Isolde will change the way you see and hear the world.
