With the Brisbane season of La bohème in its final week, regional choruses around Queensland are making their final preparations to take to the stage in their cities. The Assistant Director of La bohème, Jason Barry-Smith, has visited nearly all of the eight centres to commence the staging rehearsals – just Ipswich and Mount Isa to go – and has been impressed by the progress on music, language and stagecraft that all of the choruses have made so far. The next time OperaQ visits will be for two days of rehearsals leading up to the performances in each centre.
The John Villiers Trust has enhanced this process by funding Masterclasses given by the award winning Director of La bohème, Craig Ilott, in Rockhampton and Mackay. During the tour their funding will also facilitate professional development opportunities for specialist art and music teachers in each of the eight centres. Mount Isa Mines has also provided support for further activity in their region, including a dedicated schools’ preview of La bohème that will be attended by over 1000 students.
If you or your family and friends live on the Gold Coast, Fraser Coast, Ipswich, Toowoomba, Rockhampton, Mackay, Townsville or Mount Isa, secure tickets to see OperaQ’s memorable production of La bohème in these centres, and support the brilliant local chorus in each community.
